Hawa Tuli

Outreach and Community Coordinator

Hawa Tuli

Hawa is a public health professional with experience working with projects in academic and nonprofit settings. She was born in Tanzania and raised in the Middle East. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Meredith College where she majored in Biology and minored in Chemistry. She went on to obtain a Master of Science in Global Health from Duke University.

As a Master’s student, Hawa had the opportunity to conduct research related to perinatal depression in rural Western Kenya. This research experience was eye-opening for her as it illustrated just how neglected depression and mental health, in general, were in that region. On returning to the United States, she enrolled in a Global Mental Health course to gain a better understanding of the perception of mental health across the world and how to best support those suffering with mental illnesses.

Hawa is excited about the opportunity to serve as an Outreach and Community Coordinator as it is a position that combines her loves for creating positive change in people’s lives, interacting with different individuals, and doing the behind-the-scenes work to make events (in this case, workshops) happen.
