Unbroken
"Unbroken" is a self-portrait by Canadian born Jaene Castrillon. Jaene is a queer woman of Chinese Colombian ancestry with a variety of physical and psychiatric disabilities. Through this film Jaene explores the idea of truimph over trauma. Her philosophy is to live a life less ordinary.
As a survivor of most everything including: child abuse (emotional, physical and sexual), self harm, eating disorders, multiple suicide attempts, addictions, borderline personality disorder, anxiety disorder, PTSD, depression, being in a group home, self harm, psychiatric surviver, sex worker, being street involved; She also lived through a multitude of physical and sexual violence from gang-rapes to domestic violence causing serious long term injury.
Jaene has survived it all, lived to tell and has a fierce determination for positive self representation of marginalized people in the media. Jaene uses Art to create a healthy environment for dialogue on the intersectionality between wellness and illness.
