The Problem with Kaldeep
Logline – A young boy’s heartfelt poem leads to a new teacher’s misunderstanding of his cry for help. Synopsis – The Problem with Kaldeep – is an oblique exploration of the effect of clinical depression on a family. Framed within a school classroom, a boy’s poem brings about a misdiagnosis of the pupil by a young teacher. As each section of the poem is revealed there is an insight into the difficulties faced by this youngster, the impotence felt by him and the guilty feelings he wrestles with. The teacher’s well-meaning intervention, motivated by her own experiences of mental illness, is challenged, leaving her with a realisation of the two sides of the problem – "Who hears me? Sees my hurt?"
