This is not my story, however it is the story of someone I care about dearly. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that arises in some people after a traumatic experience. It is mostly associated with veterans but is also seen in people who have experiences traumatic events such as natural disasters, serious accidents, and in this case: sexual abuse and rape.
According to childtrauma.org, in the U.S. one out of three females and one out of five males have been victims of sexual abuse before the age of 18 years. Children are three times more likely to be victims of sexual abuse than adults.
