Ohio Program for Campus Safety and Mental Health Conference: Creating a Culture of Care

Building Empathy and Creating Community through Art and Media that Explore Mental Illness

In this interactive session, Cary McQueen will introduce strategies and techniques used by Art With Impact to support stigma reduction and early intervention. The session will be based on Art With Impact’s “Movies for Mental Health” workshops, which have reached over 5,500 students through 130 workshops since 2012. Post-workshop evaluations show that 89% of attendees felt the workshop reduced stigma around mental illness, and 72% said they are more likely to seek support for their mental health. In addition to experiencing the power of short films from Art With Impact’s library first hand, participants will also explore outcomes and evaluation data from past workshops, student feedback, as well as ideas for using art and media on your own campuses to support mental wellness.
