California Student Mental Wellness Conference

Cary McQueen will be presenting two 60-minute breakout sessions at the second annual California Student Mental Wellness Conference. Cary’s sessions (more information below) will take place at 11:30 am, and at 3:15 pm on Thursday, March 1. The conference is organized by Wellness Together, in partnership with the California Department of Education.

Connecting Through the Arts: Reducing stigma and supporting students’ mental wellness through media and creativity

In this interactive session, participants will experience how arts-based programs can be used to help students address internalized stigma around mental illness. Using data from over 150 recent campus workshops, participants will gain tools for igniting powerful discussions on their campuses, including creating a brave space, empowering students to define their own terms, and using short film to help students recognize that they’re not alone.
