Creative projects, holistic outcomes: using short film in the classroom to promote mental wellness

Our students are native speakers of “video,” and are eager to learn new ways to use this powerful communication tool. In this keynote session, Art With Impact founder Cary McQueen will share how her organization uses filmmaking workshops to provide students with unique opportunities to explore complex issues related to mental health. She will review data that demonstrate how this approach results in learning outcomes that include stigma reduction around mental illness, increased intention to access care for mental health issues, improved collaboration and team-work skills, and complex problem solving. You will come away from this talk with innovative tips and techniques for how to use video-based projects in your own school, and empowered to use new technology to address eternal questions related to wellness, compassion, and self-care.
